We are all bound to make mistakes and delete more or less sensitive data inadvertently. If we add to that the possibility of suffering a virus attack or a hardware malfunction of some kind, having a reliable data recovery tool installed in our computer is now a must, rather than a luxury.

RecoverXData, with its wizard mode, its support for all kinds of drives (internal and external), its specific functions for formatted disks and lost partitions, and its “deep recovery” tool, offers you all the functionality you’ll ever need to retrieve lost or damaged data without the added stress of having to deal with complicated menu options and cryptic interfaces.

Simplicity and efficiency are the two basic principles on which RecoverXData is based. Though the program opens in a so-called Scene Mode (a clear interface with six straightforward and easy-to-understand main options), you can switch to the program’s Wizard Mode with just one click and let it guide you through the entire recovery process.

The program will detect all the storage devices connected to your computer, including Flash and memory cards and external and internal hard drives. It then offers you two main scan options – a standard quick scan process to retrieve recently deleted files, and a slower yet more powerful deep scan to bring back to life harder-to-locate data. All the files found will be displayed on the program’s interface neatly organized by file path, though you can change to the “File type” option to see all your pictures, documents, videos, audios, compressed files, etc., all nicely grouped together.

By default, whenever you select a path or a file type, data will be presented as a list, but I advise you to click on “Preview mode” for a thumbnail-size preview of your files. This option is extremely useful to find out at a glance if the file listed is recoverable or not – if the file in question can be previewed (say, an image, a PDF file, etc.) and you can see it clearly in the thumbnail provided, chances are that the file is complete and can be successfully retrieved. Once you’ve selected the file(s) you wish to retrieve, just click on the “Recover” button, select a destination on a disk different from where the data was before it got lost and let the program do its magic for you.

RecoverXData is not a free tool. The trial version that you can download from the site will scan your disks in search of files but will not recover any file until you update to the Pro version (the only one available). It offers you various license options that vary mainly in length – the 1-year license is the only one with some restrictions, which only affect the speed of the deep scan and the remote assistance service.
